Episode 9
Film
“Ryan the Student” with Jan Scholz.
Who is your inspiration and mentor? Imagine being able to sit down with them face to face and discuss your work. This became a reality for Ryan when we flew in Jan Scholz from Belgium to be a guest photographer on Film. This week, Ryan switches roles and becomes the student of Jan. With the gorgeous venue of the Azure Salon and gorgeous model Ashley Southern, Ryan watches as Jan creates some breathtaking images and discusses how Jan works.

I do have to add that I noticed that there was a boom mic above Jan while he was shooting…it would have been great to hear some more of him directing or the scenarios that he was feeding to the model. Another great episode though. Keep up the great work.

Wow wow wow! When Tia and Tanja were featured last season, I remembered how much I loved the pictures my father used to take when I was little with his Russian rangefinder Fed3. I got so excited that on my last trip back home I took it from him and am dying to experiment with it. And then your awesome season featuring Film started… I am so dedicating myself to film because of you… Love your show and work. Very inspirational.

Please don’t cross the axis when shooting interviews – it’s really disorienting… Please more sound of Jan directing and less intro/anticipation. Thank you very much though – amazing insight into Jan’s work.

I had to watch this when I heard Jan was gonna be on it

So Good! Again one of my favorite episodes! It was amazing to stand behind and watch Jan direct- He has such an amazing style!
July 8, 2012 at 6:35 pm
Awesome show. I so wish I could have been on set for this. Love the style of the shoot, the enthusiasm for the guest and the images Jan makes. I swear that Azure and it’s staff have been photographed more in the past year than all other salons in Boise put together, Ever! Great work gang. My Favorite episode yet, I think.

Thank you for this experience. Outstanding episode!
July 15, 2012 at 10:57 pm
Come on guys! It was great that YOU guys got to watch Jan shoot and most importantly direct(which is what anyone who knows Jan’s work wants to see), but your audience got none of that. Instead we got Jan Scholz the music video. I’m sure your video guys are amazing but it’s not what I tune in to see. You guys are all amazing and I love what you’re trying to do, your insight and your awesome personalities but PLEASE with all due respect… less you, more shooting.
July 18, 2012 at 8:24 am
Watched it now for the third time. Can’t wait to for more of Jan
July 18, 2012 at 10:22 am
I know many of you wanted to hear more of Jan directing, but let me tell you, I was not more than 10 feet away from him and I still could not hear him. He is quiet like a little mouse…That is what you see in his work, his gentle, quiet nature. Don’t blame the film crew, it was just THAT QUIET…..obviously, necessary to get those soft, still moments!!!
